From 15 October 2026, BS 7671 Amendment 4 is mandatory for all new electrical work and alterations in the UK. Here’s what that means, and how Propeller is ready for it.
What is Amendment 4?
BS 7671, the IET Wiring Regulations, is the UK standard for designing, installing, inspecting and testing electrical installations. Amendment 4 (BS 7671:2018+A4:2026) was published on 15 April 2026, followed by a six-month transition period in which either version could be used.
That transition has now ended. Amendment 4 brings new requirements covering areas such as battery storage, Power over Ethernet and generators, along with updated model forms for the Electrical Installation Certificate (EIC), Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) and Minor Works (MW) certificate.
What it means for you
- New work and alterations must now comply with Amendment 4.
- Existing installations remain valid. The change applies to new work, not what’s already in place.
- Certification needs to reflect the updated forms, so the tools your engineers use must be ready too.
How Propeller is ready

- updated EIC, EICR and Minor Works certification
- new and updated fields and drop-down options
- improved validation across all three certificates
- new continuation sheets for EIC and EICR
- hundreds of fixes and stability improvements across iOS and Android
This is the first step, with further improvements and new features to follow.
Propeller customers: update your app to start producing Amendment 4 certificates. If your devices are managed through MDM, such as Microsoft Intune, your IT team will need to deploy the update.
